Salzburg, Austria

Today we drove through Germany to Salzburg, Austria. Salzburg is the birthplace of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart as well as the home of the Trapp family and where scenes from The Sound of Music were filmed.

The Mirabell Garden
The Cathedral and fortress by the Mirabell Garden
The Pegasus statue and stairs where the children sang “Do Re Mi” in the Sound of Music
The lock bridge where lovers declare their love will last forever
The house Mozart was born and raised
The original doorbell from when Mozart lived here. Each level of the building was a separate apartment. Mozart’s family lived on the third floor.
Walking through one of the squares, we came across a market.
The cherries are grown locally
So of course we had to buy some! They were delicious!
We also bought a pretzel and sat on the steps in the square people watching and enjoying the beautiful day

After walking around the squares, we took a cable car to the fortress overlooking the city.

The fortress was built to protect the town and the archbishops from hostile attacks. It has never been captured by foreign troops.
We found another survey mark in the fortress

One thing we try to do wherever we travel is to find Geocaches. We noticed there was one in the fortress, so we set out to find it. It was somewhere in the herb garden.

Can you spot it?
Russell spotted it right away!
Taking the cable car back down from the fortress
This huge chess set was in one of the squares

We had some time before our dinner reservation, so Russell decided to surprise me with a carriage ride around Salzburg.

Our guide was so sweet and gave us some history of the area
What a great way to and a fantastic day!
We had dinner at St. Peter Stiftskulinarium, a very nice restaurant right next to St. Peter Cathedral.
Cheers to a wonderful day exploring Salzburg!
