Today we took a train ride out to the Austrian countryside and enjoyed submersing ourselves in the way of life there. The town we went to was Seefield, an old farming village popular for cross country skiing in the winter.
Everyone rides bicycles here. There are always so many on the streets and it seems like a great way to get around. This is a parking garage for bicycles, stacked two high! The train we took to SeefieldThis is the first time we really had to wear masks the whole trip (except for the very end of our cruise)Getting into the countryside and farmsThe clouds are hanging low todayWe took a horse and buggy ride to slow down our pace a little and soak up the feel of the area. It is a very laid back and simple area. We took some dirt roads surrounded by natureLove this reflection in the pondIt was very peaceful listening to the horses hooves plodding alongLove this homemade fenceThis little dog, Debbie, went along for the ride too!Russell making friendsWith everyone!
Once we finished the carriage ride, we went to a local farmhouse where they give demonstrations on making apple strudel. They asked for volunteers to help, so of course Russell raised his hand!
All the ingredientsThe guy leading the demonstration was wonderful and very funny!Forming the doughThe apple mixtureStretching the dough out real thinAll rolled up and ready to bakeEnjoying the fruits of his labor! The farm also had cows that we visitedHere you can see the side of the mountain the train went on
Once we got can to Innsbruck, we decided to go and see if the ski jump was open today. We were thrilled it was and had a great time walking all around there.
We were even able to watch this guy do a few practice jumps. It was fascinating to watch him!Russell and I would like to go to the Winter Olympics sometimeWe took the cable car to the top and walked around there as well. This is the view of the underside of the ski jump. Just past the end of the jump is a cemetery and the locals joke that if you go too far, that’s where you will end up!What an amazing view from the top of the jump!
Back in the heart of Innsbruck, we walked around a little more.
The town put these groves in the sidewalks so blind people could know they are walking straight down the squareInnsbruck is on the leading edge for blind and visually impaired people to be able to get around and explore the city. We had a great dinner at this local restaurant. It’s a place where locals like to come and eat and hang out to socialize.
After dinner, it was such a beautiful evening that we decided to walk around a little more.
I love being here and experiencing this with you!We walked down to the bank of the river. What a beautiful area!We introduced some new friends, Ashley and Jerry, to the world of geocaching. Ashley even found this one first!
Today was our last day in Europe. The time has certainly flown by and we have made the most out of each and every day here! We have loved every country we have been in, met some fantastic people, embraced the cultures, and made some phenomenal memories! The best part was Russell and I did it together and truly enjoyed being with just each other for a whole month! Hope to have lots more adventures with you!
