French Riviera & Monte Carlo

We woke up to sunrise off our balcony!
Love this view!
Breakfast on the terrace
Croissants were awesome
That is our room right above Russell

We started our drive along the coast early since we had quite a way to go. It is a six and a half hour drive to Monaco.

Shortly after we began, we crossed from Spain to France. We expected to have to show our passports, but the station was not manned.

The border crossing from Spain to France

There were lots of tunnels, which we didn’t expect right along the coast, but in most places the mountain goes all the way down to the sea.

The road we took was very curvy, steep, and interesting to drive. The N-260 is claimed to be one of the best motorcycle routes in Spain and we could certainly see why. We saw tons of motorcycles, mostly BMW’s.

There were many little villages clustered together
And lots of grape vines. This is wine country after all!
We stopped at several overlooks to get a good view of the coastline
A little marina town along the French Riviera
Lots of coastal towns
This boat pulling these small sailboats reminded me of a mother duck and her ducklings
Getting gas
Quick gas station food for lunch. It tasted about how you would think it would coming from a gas station.
This town reminded us of old Miami Beach
Such cool looking towns!
I would hate to climb these stairs every day to get to my garage!
So many different architectural styles!
We arrived in Monaco! They are setting up for the Formula 1 race at the end of this month.
Monaco is its own country, but there was no border crossing coming from France
It was cool to drive on the actual streets they race on!
So many expensive cars here!
Our hotel was right on the water by the main marina
Our balcony
Overlooking the marina and the road the Formula 1 race is on
We walked the docks by the yachts
We were surprised you could walk down every dock right up to the yachts with no security anywhere
We found my boat!
Impressive! And still not the biggest one at the marina!
The grandstands are set up for the race
Dinner on a terrace by the marina
I had spaghetti with lobster and Russell had lasagna with veal
Panoramic view
Cheers to many more adventures! Patron and a cocoanut margarita
The calamari was so fresh!

After dinner we walked to the Royal Casino of Monte Carlo. A lot of movies were filmed here: James Bond Golden Eye, Oceans 12, James Bond Never Say Never Again, an episode of the Love Boat and the Amazing Race. It was nothing like we thought it would be! Very quiet inside with only a few black Jack and poker tables, roulette, craps, and not many slot machines. Of course we weren’t invited upstairs to the high rollers area! Russell won $150 on Black Jack and I lost $20 on the slots. We had fun!

Your trip has been incredibly fascinating to me. And in each picture with one or both of you in it, you look so pleased and relaxed. It seems so well planned!
